He served as Speaker of the Chancellor of the University in Mainz, Editor in Charge of the “Europäische Zeitung” and Head of Academic Foreign Office of the University in Erlangen-Nuremberg. In 1984 he became Speaker of the Head of Program of the broadcaster ZDF. There, he worked as editor in the office “Word II” of the entertainment department in 1988 and as its' head from 1989 to 1992. That year he was elected CEO program of Arte Germany TV. 1995 to 2001 he was coordinator Arte of ZDF and CEO Arte Germany.

Ulrich Deppendorf started his professional career as trainee with WDR in 1976. He worked as reporter and editor for WDR and ARD television. In 1981 he became domestic correspondent for the “Tagesschau/
Tagesthemen”, in 1986 head of television editorial ARD Aktuell and deputy-head of the editorial group “Zeitgeschehen/Aktuell”. 1989 – 1991 he served as its head. For ARD Aktuell he was second editor-in-chief and since 1993 first editor in chief. In 1999 he changed to Berlin where he became editor in chief of ARD-Hauptstadt-Studio. 2002 – 2007 he was television program director at WDR. Since May 2007 he serves as head of ARD-Hauptstadt-Studio.

Following the completion of his legal clerkship, Dr. Hege became an assistant in the Berlin House of Representatives, then an Advisor in the Berlin Senate’s Department of Justice and Director of the Media Department for Cultural Affairs. From 1985 to 1992, Dr. Hege served as the Director of the Berlin Cable Authority and, in 1988, took on the additional role of Chairman of the Working Committee for Minority Protection at the Directors’ Conference of the State Media Authorities (DLM). He is Director of the Berlin-Brandenburg Broadcasting Media Authority (MABB) since 1992. In 1993, Dr. Hege began his two-year term as Chairman of the DLM. In 1985 he was elected as Lord Mayor of the county seat of Mosbach in Baden-Württemberg. In 1990 Raff changed over to the Saarländischer Rundfunk as Administrative Director. Since 1996 he is the head of the broadcasting company, holding the post of Director, and since the early 2007 he is also Chairman of the ARD.
