5. EUROPEAN TELEVISION DIALOGUE

The 5. EUROPEAN TELEVISION DIALOGUE took place on 22nd November 2007 in the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin. German Vice Chancellor and Foreign Minister Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier held the opening speech at Europe's most important East-West media conference.

Berlin-Brandenburg's role as a leading media location in Germany has been assured by Dr. Steinmeier's promise that future meetings of the EUROPEAN TELEVISION DIALOGUE can take place in the Foreign Office. Chairman of the conference was Reinhard Klimmt, former Prime Minister of the Saarland and German Minister of transport, building and housing. This year's conference in Berlin had its main focus on the dialogue between leading personalities and decision makers from the media industry in Russia, Poland, Bulgaria, Romania and Western Europe.

In his keynote speech "Visions of the European Television" Wolfgang Clement, former Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia and former German Minister of Economics & Labour, analyzed the European media landscape focusing especially on Eastern Europe. He outlined his vision of a Pan-European television channel which covers all aspects of life in Europe.

There was a lively discussion of the following four topics:
  • EU accession - the changing media landscapes of Bulgaria and Romania
  • IPTV in Central and Eastern Europe
  • Media co-operations between Russia and Western Europe
  • Poland in German and Germany in Polish media

More than 250 participants from the media industry made the most of the opportunity to exchange information and their experiences during the EUROPEAN TELEVISION DIALOGUE.
